Moving On

September 29, 2007

After 6 years at my present job – I’m off! My fancy new job is in the city (as opposed to the arty West End) and therefore requires me to wear a suit. Above is my brand new suit. Suit shopping is not a pleasant business, particularly as i am really uncomfortable in one. The cheaper suits all looked dreadful and the expensive ones were just over the top expensive – like £500. Thankfully the Boyf suggested we wander into Jigsaw, where I ran into what was possibly london’s best ladies clothing sales person. She took me in hand and offered me 4 different jackets before then matching me up with 3 different pairs of trews to go with my top pick in jackets. Twenty minutes later I had done it – a suit I was comfortable in. If anyone else needs help in suit buying I can very much recommend a petite brunette woman with a bob in Jigsaw, St Christopher Place, just off Oxford Street.

PMT

I rode to Holborn this morning to put my new bike in for a service and witnessed the most bizarre red light jumping I’ve ever seen. A man on Brompton kept pulling into the intersection ahead of me and then simply hopping off his bike and walking it through the intersection – on the road, against the light….the light would then turn green whilst he was getting back on his bike and I would sail past him only to witness the exact same process after he pulled up in front of me at 3 more lights…arggghhh.
Also what is it with people who work around Holborn? They’re all in a terrible hurry, they wait for no man, nor woman, nor woman pushing a bike…. I became so het up about the whole thing that I shouted at one lady who walked into my bike – ‘Don’t mind me!’…. Some amount of crazy going on there I think – ie on my part possibly….

The predominant look was; bare-chested for the lads, ladies a bikini (with or without a top), a deep mahogany tan for both and at least one tattoo apiece. This was topped with a variety of accents hailing from north of the border (the border being the M25). They were a friendly bunch as northerners are wont to be, if only I had understood what they were saying!

We were caught out by the meze twice. Seems that not even the waiter knew exactly how many dished were to be served. The fish meze was nuts, starters included; prawn cocktail, salad, beetroot, tahini, tzatziki, taramsolata, smoked salmon and smoked trout. Then the mains started arriving; mussels, calamari, breaded prawns and snapper, grilled salmon, a whole sea bass, and a whole snapper…at that point we called a halt to proceedings. My belly resembled that of a malnourished child, even the Boyf was struggling.

The sun shone all week, I read seven books and I’m a ridiculous shade of brown amidst the downpours we have in London today. A proper relaxing holiday.

Now I’m back and have three weeks left at the office before I join a new company in the city – suit shopping ahoy….

He hot!

September 8, 2007

I currently have a couple of young house guests staying. One of them is a friend of my sisters. When I spoke to my sister this morning she reported that her friend had called her last night after meeting the Boyf and reported that he was hot! Actually she said that it was either ‘pretty hot’ or ‘really hot’ she couldn’t remember which. The Boyf has totally run with it though and has been repeating the words ‘really hot’ all morning…he’s all puffed up like a proud peacock…

In Black and White

The Boyf today finally suffered an age related crisis. Glancing at the travel insurance form I handed him, he quailed at the sight of his name: The Boyf, 40. Apparently it’s all a bit too real seeing it on paper. I say he’s lucky if that’s all the crisis he has suffered at the hands of impending middle age.

Still, whats he got to be worried about? He still has his health, wealth and looks, if not youth to fall back on….

Inconwenient…

Ouch – why is it that yesterday for the first time ever i managed to get muscle pain (hamstring) from cycling? Typically this muscle pain coincides with a 3 day tube strike – so I can’t take a break from cycling if I want to be able to get into work. Not that I have a burning desire to go to work, but you know, they pay me to – so I kinda have to.
