…but by god there will be cooking!
There may not be love, there may not be romance…
Bogs
When you’re job hunting and have no internets at home, you spend a lot of time out of the house sucking up free wifi. You also spend a lot of time waiting around for people and interviews etc. This means that quite often you find yourself caught short. Now, the library is a great place for free wifi without the need to buy yet another coffee, the only problem is: no toilets! There are public toilets outside, however – call me fusy-butt, they are dreadful!
In my travels though I have found aome particularly good toilets, so for your information;
The west end
John Lewis – third floor – central, clean, basic, never a queue (unlike the 1st floor).
The Wellcome Collection, Euston Road – lush, very clean, comfortable and fully enclosed cublicles
The City
Barbican! – plenty of them
Places to avoid
Topshop – dirty, crowded, horribleBogs
M&S panton – outrageous queues
Moving on
So I a flat. I hesitate to state this as the last one fell through, but as I have a bank draft for three months rent in my wallet (to be delivered tomorrow) I figure it must be going ahead. The plan is to move in on Monday when a friend is available to help me. Perhaps I’ll actually use my flip video to put a video tour up here.
The prospect of my own space as opposed to sharing the ex’s space, which although I’m very grateful for it, is not ideal, is incredibly exciting.
Less exciting however is my lack of employment, I really need to have something by end of December in order to meet my commitment of rent mid feb. Obviously I’m doing my best to achieve this (2 interviews this Friday), however I won’t truly relax until I have a job firmly in my sights.
It now feels like this process of re establishing my independence has been going on forever.
So think of me as I sit in my new flat next week, wrapped in a blanket (cos I’m too scared to add to my gas bill by using heating), awaiting news of second interviews and such like.
Progress part 2
Well I have an interview with the Hr person at a digital agency on Tuesday – so that’s encouraging. I’m also off to meet an ex colleauge regarding an upcoming 3-4 month web development… so we shall see.
Christmas is cancelled
Looking out the window I see the trees are still, its one of those rare days with no wind at all. It looks like the world has stopped, I can’t help but wish it would – just for a couple of weeks while I sort my shit out. If I’m not careful Christmas will be here before I know it and I’ll still be squatting at my ex’s and trying not to spend money….
In other news a flat I totally wanted fell through because the landlady got scared of my present lack of employment…
Genius
I’ve always had a thing against ugg boots being worn in public, mainly because in my native country thay have always (and by that I mean for the last 20 years) been known as slippers. Thing is though they are soooo warm I wish I could wear them in public. Enter these, found via Fabsugar. I sooo want !
Progress
Well I’ve found a flat, however due to my current job status, ie lack thereof, the landlady is doing a full credit check which will take a week. All being well though I should be in by mid Nov.
It’s small, it’s in zone three, but it’s 3 minutes walk from the tube, has an immaculate bathroom and best of all; a 35 foot balcony. Of course it won’t really come into it’s own till summer, but until then, it’s still a wee sanctuary where I’ll finally be able to unpack.
And now to the job hunt. Full steam ahead.
Airplane
Right so, I’m off again tomorrow. The good news is that my seat allocation on the first flight is upstairs on a 747. This is excellent news in that it means that there are a lot less people competing for the loos up there – just us prem econo and business class…woohoo.. The first leg is on Air NZ which I expecting great things from, it will be interesting to compare with the second leg on Virgin.
Lots of work to be doen on my return – namely finding a flat and thereafter a job. Wish me luck.
